TWIT on Twitter
Mar 7th, 2008 by Mark Spahr
One of the podcasts that I listen to regularly is Leo Laporte’s This Week in Tech or TWIT.
Now a lot of the stuff that they talk about is way over my head, but I enjoy listening to it for the discussion of happenings in the tech/internet world. There is also the chance that I might randomly learn something.
This week’s episode #134 features an interesting discussion around the merits of microblogging web app Twitter and compares it to Pownce, a similar service (this part is about one hour into the podcast). The argument made is that while Pownce is able to do more things than Twitter, it is actually less usable because everyone is on Twitter. Another way of saying this is that more people are using an inferior product simply because everyone else is doing it! Sounds like a classic schoolyard argument to me.
Twitter is something that I have been playing around with for a couple of weeks now. I am only following four people and I only have one follower (who is my brother). I am not sure how I will go about expanding my list of people to follow. For now it is something fun for me to play with while I figure out how it might really be useful.
Do you have any idea about how Twitter can be useful or people I should follow?
