[...] I attended the MLTI Summer Institute in Castine last week and my 3-hour session on Promoting Literacy with Cartoons, Comics and Graphic Novels went well. The participants were a very diverse group of teachers but I think everyone left with some ideas for introducing comics and graphic novels into their curricula. Mark, one of the participants, live blogged the session using Cover It Live and you can see the results on his Cooked on Education blog.
Julie,

Thanks again to you and Vicki for making your workshop available on Ustream. I really believe that using tools like Ustream and back channel chats are changing professional development for the better. I fully expect that it will soon become the norm. I just had the opportunity to live blog from a workshop I attended last week and had a teacher looking in live and interacting from his home. I hope you are enjoying your holiday on the Gold Coast!

Thanks again for a great workshop. As I said in my Reflections on the MLTI Summer Institute post, one of the real strong parts of your workshop was the emphasis on actual ways to use the resources you presented in the classroom. This is not always the case in workshops. I am glad to hear that there are not compatibility issues with the new image and Noteshare. It is a valuable tool that I use in my classroom frequently. Thanks again!

Mark, thanks for Live Blogging this and for your participation in the workshop. I think we all benefited from your comments and the experience you have with comics and graphic novels.

I just want to set the record straight on one thing. The difficulty some teachers had with opening the notebook had nothing to do with the new image (just a coincidence). When I had time to investigate it later I found that one of the flash drives we were using had a corrupted notebook file. (Someone probably pulled it out in mid-file transfer.) I tracked down one of the teachers who couldn't open it, we tried again with another flash drive, and she had no problem opening up the notebook.

Thanks again for Live Blogging and for that great Comic Life example.

Mark, thanks for being an active virtual participant in our workshop. We deliberated over how much of the workshop to take live into the virtual world, given that participants had paid to be with us for 2 days. However, I believe the experience of collaborating with virtual participants far outweighed any reasons for not to Ustream or invite wiki collaboration. The back channel was a real success and is still quite new to most of us so we are getting used to this multi-modal way of presenting and contributing.

It was great to meet you f2f, Mark, and a thank you goes out to you and Sarah Sutter for live blogging. You both have a knack for making it very effective, and not just idle chatter. Best I've seen anywhere. I had wanted to try it myself and to do some streaming, but got caught at Inspiration Station for assistance with other matters. I did get an opportunity to drop into the superb GarageBand sessions by Rick Barter and others. Highly recommended. GarageBand just has so many powerful possibilities . . . and they introduced many of them . . . show us how to use it and gave playtime to create a product and share. Doesn't get any better than that.

Check this link out to see what I mean: http://www.emerson.u98.k12.me.us/podshop/

Mark, thank you for live-blogging yesterday. This type of blogging allows more people to virtually attend sessions. I agree that MLTI needs to be a K-12 initiative now not just 7-8 or 7-12!

I hope your building principal lets you go next year.

Thanks Sarah. It was an interesting exercise in note taking. In the morning session, Michael Richards was following live from his home and was able to interact with the workshop.

It may be hard to say hi in the morning. Unfortunately, I was only able attend Thursday, but I am pushing my principal to let me attend the entire conference next year.

Mark - Great job on the live blog! I really wanted to see that session, and now I have some sense of what they talked about. Thank you. Hope to say hi in the morning if we get the chance.

Mark. . . . not sure if I've crossed your path here in castine . . . my head's in a spin at the moment. Hope to touch bases with you tomorrow. I've linked to your live blogging from LIM.

Know of anyone who is going to stream? Don't think I will have time.
