Christy,
I think you identify something really key. My intention is not to criticize the good things that Oprah and the folks on the show are doing. I actually really appreciate that part of it. Doing good things is, well... good. I just think the show would be equally (or more) compelling if it simply told the stories of folks doing good things for people in need without the judgment and competition aspect.

Thank God folks like Oprah are using their vast resources to do good in the world. Watching the show just left me with a strange tension. I don't question her motives... I think she's on the up and up, but it just felt strange to me.

Thanks for your comment.

So instead of watching others find inovative ways to give to others, you would like to watch another show about surviving somewhere or perhaps dating fifteen to twenty people at a time. I love to watch one man kiss five girls one after another. Of course I am being sarcastic. Why do some always criticize? Oprah obviously has nothing to gain personally by this show. I don't understand why we can't try to find the good in things. She is doing a service for others and personally it has made me think more about what I could do for the others around me even though I am not loaded with money. I love that Oprah uses her status for the good of others unlike some.

I didn't see the show, but what I did see (only because I was at my mother-in-law's and she had it on) was the Oprah show on the same day which, surprise surprise, was shilling Oprah's Big Give. Also, Drew Barrymore came on to "make a big announcement." Edge of your seat excitement, set your Tivos boys and girls! So the big announcement was that she is giving one million dollars to a charity to fight hunger. Now I think this is great, really I do. But why go on to Oprah and announce it to the world? Is she trying to get other people to do the same? I hope so. I hope that it is not a publicity grab.
