Another Brand New Day

by Bob Schroeder & Candy Forest

The music, much of it written by Bob Schroeder and Candy Forest, reflects the essence of 70s folk/rock; soulful lyrics, tight harmonies backed by crisp acoustic guitars, lyrical piano and powerful rock drumming by Forest’s brother, Ben Mordush. A refreshing blast from the past with a hot bonus track – an ode to Evil Knievel’s Snake River Canyon jump!

Back Story

In 1973, as the Vietnam war was winding down and Watergate was heating up, Bob Schroeder and I left Cleveland and followed our friends Jim Applebaum and Jeff Paull to Toronto, Canada, where we joined a vibrant arts community of like-minded ex-pats. Bob and I had been working as a folk duo for several years and wanted to make an album. Jim had access to an 8-track recording studio where we happily labored after hours for over a year creating the music for Another Brand New Day.

The songs included the first one I ever wrote, Occasional Lady, along with several of Bob’s and the rest by other friends. The only songwriter we didn’t know personally was Carl Franzen, whose wonderful On The Road we learned from our dearly departed friend, Michael Johnson.

The project was to be a demo to secure a contract with a record company. Although we had a lot of interest from A&M Records in Toronto and recorded Occasional Lady and the Merry-Go-Round Song for CBC Radio Canada, a contract didn’t come to pass and we never released Another Brand New Day. I’m so glad that now, decades later, I was able to re-master and release this collection. I neither sing nor write this style of music anymore and it’s very nice to hear it again.
